A lot of light skinned blacks can very well be fully black, without white blood. I am light skinned and I know I am black, not mixed at all, but people want to insist that I am. My parents are from Nigeria, my mother is Alicia Keys skin tone and 100% black, I have seen photos of my ancestors, none of them where white. They also don’t believe a black person can have a “small nose” with out being mixed. My nose is small, so that also gives peoplskin analyzer eh 900ue a reason to think I am mixed, when in reality there are many black people, even darker ones, that have smaller noses. It has been proven that Africans are the most genetically Diverse people, therefore, giving them a variety of ways to look. We can have straight hair, smaller noses, light skin, light eyes, etc all with out being mixed! It annoys me when people ask me “what is your race”, I tell them I am just black and they don’t want to believe me. If a white person can be naturally tan and not be mixed, then a black person can be naturally light and not be mixed.

Maikang I don’t know why white people say stuff like this. I think these same people have never been around too many black people in their lives. I believe their assumptions come from the many mullato actors and actresses they see in Hollywood movies.

I have a good amount of family members who are light skinned as well. We are from the Democratic Republic of Congo and we can’t trace any Europeans in our family.

Maikang People assume that because many of us identify as Black or African-American, although many of us are actually multi-ethnic. I often hear of people saying that there are many of us with non-black features who are mono-raced African-Americans (or “fully black”). If you have non-black features then somewhere in your family exists a non-black person. However, that does not mean that identifying a a mono-raced woman is wrong.

Even those who are living in Africa, with lighter skin and non-white features, have Middle-eastern, Asian, or some other heritage, along with African (even if not in the same generation). There are sections of the continent with people who fit those profiles and share the cultures of their counterparts. For those of us here, even if you have parents who consider themselves Black but have some non-black heritage (even if not immediate), that dispels any notion of purity. Those are myths, perpetuated by mis-information and faulty perception.

As a multi-cultural AA (AA, French, English, Irish), who embraces all of my heritages- I think that it is healthy to know and acknowledge truths from mis-truths. Also, I realize that much of it has to do with culture and what is acceptable in your environment. I did not grow-up in the Black community, but do have the understanding that bi- and multi-cultural people are expected to assume the identity of African-American despite any other heritage and that not doing so is looked down upon and seen as a sign of shame.skin analyzer
