how to tighten skin after weight loss Home Remedies, way?

Home Remedies for Sagging Skin

Time and tide wait for none and so do the aging signs. Due to aging, the elastin and collagen structure of the skin loses elasticity and the skin loses some of its self-moisturizing components making it appeared loose and saggy. Plus, age can make the facial muscles weak, which also contributes to saggy skin.

In addition to aging, skin can lose its elasticity because of excessive exposure to harmful sun rays, excessive smoking, regular intake of alcoholic beverages, obesity, pregnancy, rapid weight loss, a poor diet, use of wrong skin care products,  dehydration and use of harsh chemicals on the skin.

Along with sagging skin, you may also notice an increase in wrinkles and fine lines, especially on your face. Skin may also look paler and more translucent, and it may become more sensitive.

There are some natural home remedies that can help tighten sagging skin on the face, neck, arms and breasts.

Here are the top 10 home remedies for sagging skin.

1. Egg White

Egg whites are a natural astringent and hence work as a good remedy for sagging skin. Its skin-nourishing ingredient hydro lipids help lift loose skin.

  • Whisk one to two egg whites until you get a foamy texture. Apply it to the face and neck. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then rinse it off with cool water.
  • Another options is to add one tablespoon of plain yogurt to one egg white and whisk it. Apply the mixture to your face and neck and leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

You can use either of these remedies twice a week to enjoy firm, radiant skin.

2. Lemon

The vitamin C in lemon helps boost collagen production. This in turn helps restore elasticity to your skin. Plus, lemon has astringent properties that help tighten the skin and reduce wrinkles and other signs of premature aging.

  • Extract some fresh lemon juice and rub it gently on your face and neck. Leave it on for five to 10 minutes and then rinse your face with water. Do this two or three times a day and follow up with a good-quality moisturizer.
  • You can also add the juice of half a lemon to a cup of cold water. Splash this mixture on your freshly washed face. Allow the lemon water to air dry on your face. Follow this remedy once or twice daily for best results.

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is best when it comes to firming and tightening loose skin. The malic acid in aloe vera gel helps improve the elasticity of your skin and get rid of sagging skin. Plus, it is a natural moisturizer for your skin.

  • Extract the gel from an aloe vera leaf and smear it on your face and neck. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy several times a week.
  • Another option is to mix together one tablespoon of aloe vera gel and one teaspoon each of mayonnaise and honey. Apply this on your face and neck and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water and then splash some cold water. Do this once a week.

4. Cucumber

To tighten loose and saggy skin, you can also use cucumber. It is one of the best natural skin toners and has a refreshing and rejuvenating effect on skin.

  • Grind half a cucumber and squeeze it through a strainer to extract its juice. Apply this juice on your face and leave it on until it dries. Rinse it off with cool water. Follow this remedy once daily.
  • You can also  combine one tablespoon each of grated cucumber and plain yogurt. Apply the mixture on your face and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water. Repeat several times a week.
  • You can also make a face mask with two tablespoons of fresh cucumber juice, one egg white and three to five drops of vitamin E oil. Apply this mask on your face and neck, leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off with cool water. Use this mask once a week.

5. Oil Massage

Massaging your face and neck with a natural oil like olive oil helps tighten loose skin to keep it firm and smooth. Olive oil has antioxidants like vitamins A and E that render anti-aging benefits. It will also help keep your skin well moisturized.

  1. Slightly warm some extra-virgin olive oil in the microwave.
  2. Apply this oil on your face.
  3. Massage gently with your fingertips in circular motions for 10 minutes.
  4. Follow this remedy once daily before going to bed.

You can also use avocado, coconut, grapeseed, jojoba or almond oil to massage your face, neck, arms and legs.

6. Honey

Honey has natural hydrating, antioxidant and anti aging properties that are helpful for treating sagging skin.

  • Mix two to three teaspoons of honey and a few drops each of lemon juice and olive oil. Apply it on your face and neck, let it dry and then rinse it off with warm water. Do this once or twice daily for best results.
  • You can also mix together one-half tablespoon each of honey and sour cream. Then mix in one-half teaspoon of turmeric powder. Apply the mixture on your face for 15 minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water and then splash some cold water. Use this face mask once a week.

14 Ways to Tighten Skin After Weight Loss

1. Monitor your weight loss.

It may be time to curb your weight loss just for a bit to allow your skin to get adjusted to the loss. As you maintain your weight, your skin has more of a tendency to shrink to your new size. If you continue to lose weight rapidly, your skin will continue to lose elasticity.

2. Increase your water intake.

Drinking a lot of water not only improves your overall health, it also will help your skin to become tighter, smoother, and look more radiant. Be sure to drink at least 6 glasses of water per day. If you can drink more than that, even better. Hydration is wonderful for your skin and certainly helps with the elasticity of such.

3. Participate in weight resistance training.

According to Cedric Bryant, chief science officer for the American Council on Exercise, strength training strengthens muscles as it creates a layer of muscle underneath the skin. As a result, your skin will become tighter. It is recommended that you perform strength training three times per week every other day in order to really benefit your muscles and skin. Weight training is especially important if you have dropped your caloric intake significantly, as when you lose fat, you often lose muscle as well. Rebuilding your muscles will help tighten the skin.

4. Moisturize your skin.

Use a moisturizer that has vitamin E in it, so that your skin will stay moist, as this allows for new skin cells to grow. Moisturizing also helps with minimizing wrinkles. You can even use coconut oil on your skin. Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer and has antibacterial properties to soothe the skin. It is often used in commercial and DIY body lotions, but it can be used on its own as well. You can find here more fantastic everyday uses for coconut oil, or read about these fruit oils for skin care.

5. Belly Toning Exercises.

Chances are your belly has some stretched skin if you’ve lost a lot of weight. Tightening the tummy area is much more possible if you take time a few times per week to exercise that area. Commit to belly toning exercises such as crunches, air bike, leg raises, sit ups, side bridges, and pelvic thrusts. You don’t have to spend a lot of time on these exercises either. Simply spending 15 to 20 minutes three to five days per week will help tighten your tummy area. You can find here 8 simple exercises to get a flat tummy, and if you have loose skin on your arms, check these 6 simple exercises to get rid of jiggly arms.

6. Get massages.

Who doesn’t love a massage? Head to your favorite masseuse to get weekly or biweekly massages, as they are known to help increase blood circulation that is helpful to your skin. As nice as they are, you don’t necessarily need a massage therapist to massage your skin, as you can do it yourself or have your partner do this for you. You can add to the massage your favorite essential oils diluted in a carrier oil and inhale them to reach new levels of calmness. If you are interested to learn more about essential oils you can find useful information in my e-book Magical Aromatherapy. This book will help you to discover the power of essential oils and the most effective ways to use them.

7. Limit your sun exposure.

Too much time in the sun will have a negative effect on your skin’s elasticity, so limit your time sun bathing. This goes for tanning beds as well, as the rays can dry out your skin and damage the skin cells at the same time (you can also watch this video to see what the sun really does to your skin). Also, limit your time swimming in chlorinated water, as the chlorine can dry out and damage skin cells. Spending a short amount of time sun bathing and swimming is alright; just be sure to shower afterwards and apply a natural moisturizer that has vitamins and aloe vera included.

8. Sea salt scrubs.

There are some researchers asserting that sea salt scrubs will help with blood flow to the skin and help tighten the skin over time. There are a number of sea salt and mineral scrubs available on the market to choose from. Simply use them in the shower each day as you wash and see how your skin looks and feels after a couple of weeks. Read my article how to use sea salt for your skin, including sea salt body scrub.

9. Visualize tight skin.

Visualization is a super interesting tool to use to get your desires to come true. No, it’s not like magic, but there is power in envisioning your desires manifesting. Even some professional athletes use visualization to help improve their games and performances. The way it works is that when you mentally see something, you tend to take more actions toward making your desires come true. When you see your skin tight, you’re more apt to do things like exercise, eat healthy, and follow through with other helpful tips. You have full permission to daydream and take some time each day and visualize yourself with tight skin.

10. Be patient.

When dealing with stretched, loose skin, it is important to be patient as your body adapts to your new size. Additionally, keep in mind that depending on how much weight you’ve lost, your skin may not be able to return to its original elasticity. Make a decision to accept this now just in case and affirm that you are pretty awesome even with some loose skin.

It is understandable to become frustrated when you’ve lost a lot of weight and now have to be concerned about loose skin. Fortunately, others that have gone before you have tried all sorts of methods to tighten their skin and happily pass that information on. Keep in mind that what works for one person may not work for you. You can try various ways to tighten your skin and see what is helpful for you.

11. Stop Smoking

stop smoking loose skin

There are so many reasons to not smoke. And here’s a big one: it ruins your skin.

The bottom line is if you want to keep your skin glowing and healthy, you have to say no to cigarettes.

This is well-established scientific fact.

For example, one study conducted by researchers at the International Association of Ecologic Dermatology involved the analysis of the skin of 64 female Italian smokers.

They looks at the presence of lines, vascular and pigmentation, elasticity, brightness, and texture and found that the average biological age of the subjects was 9 years older than their chronological age.

That is, their skin looked 9 years older than it actually was.

There’s a silver lining here, though:

After 9 months of not smoking the average reduction in the biological age of the skin was 13 years.

12. Eat Enough Protein

Protein helps keep your skin moist, wrinkle-free and elastic.

This is why studies show that a high-protein diet is associated with skin health and youthful appearance, and why low protein intake affects your skin, making dryness, wrinkles, and poor elasticity more likely.

There are many other benefits to a high protein diet as well.

  • You build more muscle and get stronger.
  • You lose more fat and less muscle.
  • You feel fuller.
  • You preserve more muscle as you age.

The science of eating is complex and evolving, but this much is now clear: a high-protein diet is the way to go.

13. Eat Your Fruits and Veggies

fruit vegetables loose skin

It’s a well-known fact that eating fruits and vegetables improves health.

Research clearly shows that people who eat higher amounts of these foods are more likely to live longer, disease-free lives than those who don’t eat enough.

It’s also a well-known fact that few people eat enough or even know how much they’re supposed to eat and why.

(The government recommends that adults eat about 3 cups of vegetables and 2 cups of fruit per day, and the more kinds and colors you eat, the better.)

Unfortunately, this dietary negligence increases the risk of chronic disease and dysfunction, and as your skin is a reflection of your inner health, we shouldn’t be surprised to learn that research shows that a high daily intake of fruit and veggies helps you have beautiful, elastic skin.

14. Take the Right Supplements

loose skin supplements

There are many supplements that purport to help with loose skin, but most have little scientific evidence to support such claims.

There are two supplements that are worth considering, though:

  1. Gelatin
  2. Fish oil

They’re not a substitute for the diet and exercise strategies we’ve discussed, of course, but they can, well, supplement your efforts to improve the look and quality of your skin.

Gelatin

Gelatin is a type of protein that comes from collagen, a protein itself that’s crucial for healthy skin.

Research shows that, when eaten, gelatin can stimulate the production of collagen and thereby improve skin elasticity (the dosage was 250 mg per day, in case you’re wondering).

Gelatin isn’t the easiest thing to fit into your diet plan, though, because it’s most easily found in sweets and desserts.

That’s why it’s simpler to take it as a supplement.

Here’s the product I would personally use (NOW Foods is a trustworthy company):
