  1. Drink lots of water. Water is responsible for cleansing skin from the inside out and preventing wrinkles. Keeping well hydrated will keep your skin looking plump and fresh as a child’s.

    • Try to drink at least 64 ounces of fluid a day, including water. Try to make water your primary drink, substituting it for sugary drinks or alcohol.
    • Avoid sodas and alcohol which can affect skin negatively. The sugar and chemicals in soda and sugary drinks causes acne and oil buildup, while drinking alcohol steals moisture from your skin and gives the appearance of premature aging.
    • Try adding cucumber or lemon slices to your water, as both have proven to have extra skin-boosting benefits and add a refreshing twist to your H2O.
  2. Apply sunscreen regularly. Sun damage is one of the top causes of an uneven skin tone, so protect yourself by using a minimum SPF15 on a daily basis.

    • Avoid tanning beds and laying out in the sun for hours whenever possible, as these are incredibly dangerous due to their carcinogenic properties.
    • Although SPF 15 is the minimum level of sun protection, to really save your skin apply at least an SPF 30.
    • Apply sunscreen on a daily basis, even if it is cloudy out. 80% of the sun’s radiation penetrates cloud cover, meaning you can still receive sun damage when it’s gray and rainy.
    • Use an SPF that has both UVA and UVB protection. UVA are the rays from the sun that cause wrinkles and age spots, while UVB rays are responsible for burning your skin. Keep in mind that many facial moisturizers and foundations contain sunscreen. Check the label to be sure. If your makeup or moisturizer does not contain sunscreen then you can always wear sunscreen under your makeup.
  3. Exercise regularly. Working out doesn’t just affect your size and weight, but helps to generate new skin cells which keeps your complexion even and young.

    • Heavy workouts aren’t required to get healthy looking skin. Instead, focus on just getting your blood pumping for a few minutes every day.
    • If you get dirty during your workout, be sure to wash your face afterwards to keep oil and dirt from getting trapped in your pores and causing your skin to break out.

    Forego junk food and eat fresh fruits and vegetables instead. Healthy eating in general can help to promote a clear complexion. However, in the beginning you might notice you are breaking out a bit more due to your skin pushing out all the toxins. The chemicals, oils, and sugar in junk food cause your skin to create more oil, which clogs your pores.

    • Instead of completely cutting junk food out of your diet, slowly incorporate more fresh food and less processed food to help your skin.
    • Some foods like blueberries and salmon, which are high in antioxidants, are great for evening out your complexion.

    6 Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Niacinamide is a biologically active form of niacin (vitamin B3) found in many root vegetables and yeast. In addition to giving you a more firm, toned look, it is also believed to help even skin tone as well.
    7 Kojic Acid: Derived from fungal species, this ingredient can help brighten your look. Kojic acid is also an antioxidant, so it can help protect from environmental stressors.
    8 Kiwi: Like kojic acid, kiwi fruit extract has been found to help even skin tone as well as reduce the appearance of under eye dark circles. Like most fruit extracts, kiwi is also rich in protective antioxidants.

    9 Licorice Root: Related to beans and peas, licorice root produces an extract that helps to naturally lighten your look. It contains an active compound called “glabridin.” All three of our facial oils contain this ingredient.
    10 Green tea: We never seem to come to the end of the list of benefits provided by green tea. In addition to all its health-promoting antioxidants, green tea was also found to help even skin tone. Apply cooled tea bags to the dark areas of skin and leave for 15 minutes or so, or make your own mask by mixing cooled tea with a banana, a little kiwi juice, or some rice flour.     11 Alpha-Arbutin: Extracted from a number of plants, alpha-arbutin helps too. It may also be found in cranberries, blueberries, and pears, but one of today’s preferred sources is the bearberry or “uva ursi,” plant. We use this ingredient in our Citrus Stem Cell Serum to help reduce the appearance of dark spots.
    12 Lemon juice: It’s naturally acidic, so applying it to your skin can help exfoliate and brighten skin tone. Apply the juice directly to the skin, let sit for a few minutes, and then rinse off. If you have sensitive skin, be careful, as lemon can be irritating to some people. Make your own skin lightening mask at home with a recipe from our recent post.
    13 Turmeric: A newly rediscovered super spice, turmeric is native to Southern Asia and India and is commonly used in Indian cooking. Newer research has discovered that in addition to being a powerful antioxidant, it can also even out skin tone. You can make your own mask by mixing turmeric with lemon juice—or for more sensitive skins, almond oil. Leave on skin for 10 minutes or so before rinsing off.

15 . Use Sunscreen during day time: The most common cause for an uneven skin tone is sun damaged skin. It not only causes wrinkles and has cancer risk, but can also leads to formation of freckles when you are outside during daylight hours. So wear sunscreen during daytime. If you like, you can wear a hat also.

(i) Although SPF15 is the minimum threshold for sun protection, to have a real protection for your skin from sun damage go for at least SPF 30.

(ii) Make a practice to apply sunscreen every day, even if it’s cloudy outside. 80% of the damaging sun rays can penetrate cloud covers, so you can get sun damaged skin even when it’s gray and rainy.

(iii) Ensure that the SPF you are using has both UVA and UVB protection. Whereas the UVA rays from the sun are responsible for skin wrinkles and age spots, the UVB rays cause burning of your skin.

(iv) A word of caution is not to use tanning beds and also avoid lying out in the sun for hours.

16. Avoid Junk Foods: Avoid and if not possible then at least limit consumption of junk foods and eat fresh fruits and vegetables instead. The chemicals, oils and sugar contained in the junk foods trigger your skin to produce more oil that can clogs your pores leading to uneven skin tone. Include in your diet fresh fruits and vegetables, especially blueberries and salmon, which are rich source of antioxidants and thus are very helpful in evening out your skin complexion.

17 . Do exercises regularly: Exercises not only keep you healthy and slim, but also helps to produce new skin cells that contribute a lot in keeping your skin tone even and  young. You do not require doing heavy workouts to get even complexion skin. Just do as much which is enough to get your blood pumping for a few minutes daily.
